Named for homesteader Tom McCall, who came to the valley in 1889, McCall's early history is marked by fur trading, gold mining and the timber industry. Hoff & Brown Lumber Company, one of the most enduring businesses in the area, remained in operation until the late 1970s. Despite the industrial leanings, Payette Lake has always been a popular draw for vacationers and second homeowners from Boise and beyond. Today, McCall is a friendly and relaxing four-season resort town that is the perfect place to call home.
